Parangtritis Beach |
There is a folklore related to Parangtritis beach's myth and supranatural. The folklore warns vistors not to wear the colour green or the Queen will entice the wearer in to the sea till drown because green colour is Queen's favorite colour.
Parangtritis beach lies arround 27 kilometers to south from city center. Parangtritis beach can be reach by public or private transport. There are two routes to get there, Yogyakarta-Parangtritis or Yogyakarta-Imogiri-Siluk-Parangtritis that more challenging than another one with the river and coral reef scenery on the way.
Just walk or hired a horse-cart (called bendi in local term) to enjoy Parangtritis beach's beautifull scenery. Parangtritis's name believed derived from parang (stone) and tumaritis (water drop), its dating back to Majapahit kingdom periods. Legend tells hundreds years ago, Dipokusumo, a fugitive from Majapahit came to this place to meditate. When he saw water dripping from the crack of the coral reef, he named this area 'parangtritis', originating from the word parang (stone) and tumaritis (water drops). The beach close to the area was then named the same.
Close to the beach is gua Langse or Langse cave that offering a different view and experience from Parangtritis beach. On the earth road leading to the cave, you can look westwards to see Parangtritis from different angle. The high waves rushing to the shore will look silvery till golden at sunset.
